Hi, I’m Gavin,

I’ve been writing in one form or another since childhood. At thirteen I co-edited my school magazine, later became editor of a company-wide magazine, and for seven years I’ve been writing a private journal. Storytelling has always been part of my life, and over time I’ve drawn on those experiences to shape the way I write today.

Much of my inspiration comes from real memories, schooldays, and the kind of people you remember long after you’ve met them. I enjoy blending humour with more thoughtful moments, because I believe the most meaningful stories are the ones that feel both real and relatable. I’m often heard saying, ‘You can’t make some things up’

My previous journey with anxiety - featured on BBC World News - also influences how I approach writing. It taught me that honesty matters, and that stories can offer comfort as well as entertainment. More than anything, I want my writing to feel authentic: something children can laugh at, think about, and return to again and again because the characters feel like old friends.

Outside of writing, I enjoy reading, theatre, movies, and football (soccer). I’ve always loved a good comedy - from the slapstick of Laurel and Hardy to more modern favourites like Hot Fuzz, The Hangover, and 50 First Dates. I’m drawn to stories with a twist, or those that balance humour and heart rather than relying only on one-liners. On TV, The Big Bang Theory appeals to me for its clever writing, while Only Fools and Horses remains a favourite for its down-to-earth warmth and perfectly timed sadness and humour.

My first middle-grade manuscript is now complete, and I’ve started submitting to agents in both the UK and USA.
